Zojirushi EB-CC15 Indoor Electric Grill Review

2
After some fair amount of electric indoor grill research, I finally settled on the Zojirushi EB-CC15 Indoor Electric Grill (official web site for the indoor grill can be seen here).

Indoor Electric Grill Research

Generally, the reviews I've read say that indoor grills (such as the George Foreman grills) are ok, but the same complaints seem to creep up constantly: Non-stick surfaces start to peel off, the grill doesn't get hot enough and they don't seem to grill meats very well (cannot get the nice grill marks on the meat). They also seem to need replacing every couple of years.

Indoor Grill Shopping

Personally, I really wanted something that can grill meats and this is where the Zojirushi EB-CC15 grill seems to fit the bill. After some online shopping at the usual stores (i.e. Best Buy, Walmart and Futureshop) it didn't seem that it was a product that they kept in stock in the Montreal area (maybe you can find it in Chinatown though). Luckily, Amazon.ca had a few left in stock, and offered free UPS shipping so it was very convenient.

Indoor Electric Grills...Can They Grill Meat?

One detail that caught my attention about the Zojirushi grill was the packaging. They advertise right up front on the packaging that their grill is ideal for grilling meat. Many of the other grills I've seen mention grilling "sandwiches", "paninis", and "food"...But, hardly (or never) mention the word "meat" anywhere. If you shop around, read the feature list and you may be surprised to see that "meat" doesn't even get mentioned as one of the top bullet points.

From the Zojirushi website:
The Indoor Electric Grill is perfect for grilling steaks, seafood, vegetables and more. The grill design directs excess oils and fats away from food and into the drip pan for healthier dining. The drip pan is dishwasher safe.

Using the Zojirushi EB-CC15 Electric Grill

After letting the grill warm up for 8-10 minutes as instructed in the manual, the grill delivered as advertised. I wasn't sure what to expect, but the chicken immediately got those grill marks that people seem to like so much; it definitely seemed hot enough to grill meat nicely. Since the juices from the meat tend to splash around, cleaning up is the biggest downside I can see; but that's going to be expected of any grill. I'm definitely looking forward to grilling other meats. I'll keep this post updated too, if anything unexpected happens.

Anyone else have experience with this (or anything other) electric indoor grill?
