Haier 40D3505 40-inch 1080p LED HDTV Review

8
Not many Canadian reviews out there for this budget Haier 40D3505 LED HDTV, so I decided to take a chance on this after seeing it at Costco a little while ago. The price is clearly a big selling point, and it had the basics that I needed in a secondary TV which were the following: 1920 x 1080 (1080p resolution), LED, 3 HDMI Ports and Costco's 2 year warranty. Not asking or expecting much, just a basic and inexpensive HDTV.

Slim, Light Weight LED HDTV

Physically the Haier LED HDTV is quite slim, you can easily pick it up by yourself and move it around. There are many 40 inch LED televisions that are somewhat bulkier in this price range. But this Haier is very light and thin. The slim bezel and stand also make it look small. I have an old 40 inch Sony LCD television which is much bigger, heavier and looks that way as well. This is a lightweight television in looks and feel.

Haier 40D3505 Features: Basic HDTV with Good Enough Image Quality

The image quality itself, at least to me is good enough. If you compare to a high end Samsung LED television (which can cost many times more) then you will see a difference immediately. It's doesn't wow you in any way, but does the job. I must note that it did not seem to handle standard definition signals all that great, but it seemed to handle a HD signal just fine. Personally, in this price range, reliability is more important than top of the line image quality; and only time will tell if this unit holds up. Costco's extended product warranty helps here. Speakers are what you'd expect from any TV this size; not great, but does the job. The remote control is basic, plastic and again does the job. The three HDMI ports are a nice bonus on a budget unit like this. In the end, it's not a fancy LED HDTV but it works so far and if it proves to be reliable then it's a solid deal.

  1. Hello,

What all video formats does this model support when played from an USB ??

I have a 40D3505 as well, but it does not seem to be supporting any video when played with an USB drive.

Need to buy a chromecast as well, but not sure whether it will be supported!

  2. If I recall in my tests, it doesn't support any video formats (it's not a smart TV).

The Chromecast should work, since all you need is a HDMI input on the television and a power source.

  3. Yeah, I also discovered that after I took the TV, so i had to return it back.

Talking of Chromecast, has anyone tried playing non-Youtube/Netflix format videos through it or using it via some other media players for Android like VLC etc? For e.g. dat, mpegs, avi, mp4, VOBs etc

  4. how's the input lag on this tv (not response time). If you connect a console or pc, is there a noticeable delay when making inputs vs when they appear on screen?

  5. You mean the time it takes when switching between inputs? I don't recall right now, but it didn't seem unusually slow at the time. Switching the TV on however takes time (seems like 2-3 seconds for the screen to light up).

  6. I just picked up this TV at Costco. I wanted to add that this TV does support HDMI CEC even though all documentation I found online suggested it did not.

  7. TV still working fine for me. The price actually seems to have increased maybe about ten dollars since last year. Must be the weak Canadian dollar working against us.
