Canadian Rip Off 2010: Airline Edition

Ever wonder why we Canadians get ripped off on plane tickets? This article tells us why. No competition. To fly in Europe can be up to 66% cheaper than flying similar distances here in Canada. This makes a fine addition to my series of great Canadian rip-offs...

The Calgary Beacon:
A Canadian could book all five Canadian flights for a total distance of 3,336 miles return, and would pay $1,499.62, all taxes and fees included (which constitute 30 per cent of the cost).

An American could book all five U.S. flights for a total distance of 3,334 miles return, and would pay $934.72, all taxes and fees included (which constitute 14 per cent of the cost).

A European, however, could book all five European flights for a total distance of 3,358 miles return, and would pay $525.72, all taxes and fees included (which constitute 52 per cent of the cost).
