I don't know what's up with Joaquin in this clip: He's either high on something or he's just acting crazy...Either way it looks like the world's most uncomfortable talk show interview...But Letterman does a great job to keep it entertaining...

Apparently he is doing some mockumentary and was filming the Letterman sequence, so maybe it was part of that like what Borat did.
