Three Kingdoms TV Series Review

0
Breaking Bad, Walking Dead and one of my old personal favorites 24, are all great television series. So when I was looking for the next thing, I never expected it to be a historical fiction Chinese TV series.

I just finished off watching the Three Kingdoms TV series where I had pretty much no expectations. But, once I started it didn't take long before it got a hold on me. I found it to be quite entertaining and informative at the same time. All the events are based on real historical events in China's history (169 AD-280 AD), which I had absolutely no knowledge about before. I pulled this line from a travel web site, that describes it perfectly:

"It is considered to be a special historical period full of power struggles and sophisticated military strategies"

Lui Bei, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei brothers

TV Budget, High Entertainment

It's a television budget so the special effects, fight scenes and computer graphics are not the best (it's nothing near the action you would expect from say, Lord of the Rings) and even sometimes the actors get recycled lol...But it's the characters, their stories, the politics, and military strategies that are quite engaging. I've never really seen anything quite like this before and I've got to put it up there with some of the best TV shows I've ever seen.

Fast Paced Story Telling

The series covers many years so things move along fairly quickly, there were times when I couldn't believe episodes were finished when it just felt like they just got started, and you want to know what happens next. It's almost hard to believe what you are watching are all based on real-life characters and events...It's entertainment and a brief history lesson all at the same time; and best of all it's free on Youtube right now with subtitles (my Chromecast got a nice workout this month).

Episode 3: Cao Cao kills Lü Boshe by mistake

Here's the first available full episode that I watched (starts off with a major character Cao Cao who just escaped from prison with help from his friend). I've been watching this almost daily for the last month or so...I'm almost sad that's it's over, now I need to find the next thing...
